“Can we tell Parappa the little fucking rapper to just fuck off this issue?”

When I first met Andy he was Editor of Playstation Max. I was in print services at the time and 'Parappa the Rappa' was giving all the grief. We had a branded pencil case and all the paraphernalia involved and it got held up in customs. I think it was around about 45,000 at the time (Jackie Garford?!). I spoke to Andy and he simply just said 'can we tell Parappa the little fucking rapper to just fuck off this issue? Stupid little prick'.

It kind of worked out I think 🤔 they were in Seven Dials at the time and there was one creaky stair up to them and Brad M etc kind of on the sidelines of Edge 😂 I also remember (due to print services) that he was the only Editor in the gaming cohort to send a 'subscriber letter' to print. Simply because it was in the budget and on the print schedule but I do remember they were always funny and he'd always send the attachment as 'for my loyal readers' 😂

I've been thinking about Andy a lot recently and how he was so patient and understanding of the gobby upstart Assistant Publisher he got dumped with. Mega launched on the day that I joined Future in the Circulation team and it is probably still my favourite Future magazine and that is in no small part due to Andy's brilliant writing. When I was made his Asti I was definitely a little star struck and I wish I could sit down and tell him that now.

I've dug out the PlayStation Max cover he produced when I was moved away from publishing in to licensing (where I could create less damage) and it made me smile & cringe in equal measure. One of the things that did make me smile is that it has an image of Max the Dog parking a brownie on it. 'Spot Max's Turd' was one of the brilliant features of PlayStation Max and something the team and I would joke & laugh about every month (4 weeks) at a time when there wasn't much at Future to smile about.
